AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 43-year-old man was convicted on aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault charges stemming from a rideshare sexual assault that happened in May 2024, according to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office.
Maurys O. Madruga-Mesa was initially arrested and charged with sexual assault, KXAN previously reported. He was indicted on that charge in November 2024, the DA’s office said in a news release Friday. Then, Madruga-Mesa was reindicted on an aggravated kidnapping charge in April 2025.
The alleged incident happened on May 6, 2024, when the victim requested a rideshare in south Austin to their residence, according to court documents. The victim told the Austin Police Department they were assaulted multiple times by Madruga-Mesa during the rideshare service.
On Wednesday, a jury found Madruga-Mesa guilty of both charges of sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping. He received 10 years’ confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) for sexual assault. He also received five years’ confinement at TDCJ for aggravated kidnapping, but the jury “recommended that his sentence be probated,” the release said.
Madruga-Mesa will serve both sentences concurrently, according to the DA’s office.
