Man booked after deadly DUI crash near Pine Flat

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The driver who was hospitalized following a deadly crash above Pine Flat Lake has been booked into jail.

On June 14, around 7:15 p.m., 40-year-old Luis Estanga of Fresno and his four passengers were traveling down Trimmer Springs Road.

CHP says Estanga was speeding and failed to make it around a curve. The truck tumbled 200 feet down a steep embankment, rolling multiple times, before coming to rest against a tree.

One of Estanga’s passengers, 46-year-old Cristian Jaime, was pronounced dead at the scene. The three others suffered minor-to-moderate injuries and were transported to the hospital.

Estanga suffered extensive injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital. He was medically cleared on Friday and booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. His bail is set at $163,500.
