SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Saturday, Utah! Today’s temperatures will be similar in the north and a couple degrees warmer in the south. Daytime highs will be in the low to mid 90s for most with hot spots in the upper 90s to low 100s. Mostly sunny skies are expected across the state, but some will be battling smoke.
Smoke from the France Canyon and Forsyth Fires will impact southwest and south-central Utah the most, but we could see some thicker plumes as far north and Castle Country and Nephi. Winds shift in the evening, pushing thicker plumes back south of I-70, into the St. George area and through the Mighty Five. Haze will stick around in the south to some degree for as long as the fires burn.
Temperatures stay hot through the weekend, but things really heat up on Monday. On Monday we’re looking at temperatures flirting with 100 degrees on the Wasatch Front and nearing 110 in lower Washington County. There isn’t much relief from the heat after that, but temperatures do take a small step back by the midweek as the high pressure ridge breaks down. This could open up the door for a little monsoonal moisture. Models are still undecisive of exactly where, when, and how much, but it looks like it’ll stick to higher terrain.
