SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4) — Family and friends of Afa Ah Loo gathered at the Salt Palace Convention on Friday for a Celebration of Life Ceremony to remember Ah Loo.
Ah Loo was killed in a shooting during the No Kings Protest in downtown Salt Lake on June 14. Today, hundreds of friends, family and community members gathered in a Celebration of Life to remember the man that friends say lived many lives.
Ah Loo was known for his work as a fashion designer, working closely with the Pacific Islander community and operated his own design studio. Janae Pettit, a close friend of Afa, shared a space in the same design studio as him, and says there were so many good memories.
“Last year, I was presenting my collection at Creative Pacific, and he had this habit of stretching himself too thin, and he supports everyone and does everything for everyone else around him,” Pettit adds. “He had that way of lightning the mood and just making everyone feel so comfortable and confident.”
ABC4.com previously spoke with Benjamin Powell, a friend and business partner of Ah Loo’s, who described him as a “person of service.”
