ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene man is facing an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge after police say he pistol-whipped a 15-year-old boy and stole a necklace during a possible setup for a robbery.
According to court records, Nicholas Campos-Rocha was arrested following an incident at Nelson-Wilson Park. The victim reportedly called a female friend and asked if she wanted to hang out. She agreed to pick him up, but instead followed another vehicle to the park.
Once they arrived and parked, Campos-Rocha got out of the second vehicle, approached the teen, and began hitting him in the face and head with a black semi-automatic handgun, according to police. He then allegedly ripped a diamond and silver necklace from the boy’s neck before both vehicles left the area.
The 15-year-old was able to find nearby officers who were responding to an unrelated call and reported the assault. Police contacted Campos-Rocha shortly after and took him into custody.
Campos-Rocha has since been released from the Taylor County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
