LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 73-year-old woman has died after being hit by a car in Lincoln County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Just before 7 a.m. on Saturday, troopers responded to the crash on NC 27 near Long Circle. Officials said a 2013 Toyota Sienna was going east on NC 27 when it hit the woman who was in the roadway.

The woman, 73-year-old Maudie Rhinehart, from Iron Station, was killed at the scene. Highway Patrol said she was wearing dark clothing, and the roadway was not lit.

The driver of the Toyota, a 29-year-old woman, was not injured.

Investigators don’t believe impairment or speed are factors in the crash and say no charges will be filed in this case.

The roadway was closed for about two hours during the on-scene investigation.
