(KRON) — A Walnut Creek man who sexually abused a child in a restroom at Walnut Creek Library last year has been sentenced to over six years in prison, the Contra Costa County District Attorney announced. Marc Alexander Simon, 28, was sentenced to six years and eight months in state prison after pleading guilty to felony charges of sexual abuse of a minor and aggravated possession of child sexual abuse material.
Simon must also register for life as a sex offender upon his release from custody.
According to the DA, the offense occurred on April 11, 2024, when Simon followed a child into a restroom at Walnut Creek Library and abused the child. The child reported the incident to an adult who contact the Walnut Creek Police Department.
Walnut Creek PD detectives used security cameras to identify Simon’s vehicle as he left the scene. He was tracked to another location in Walnut Creek where he was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
At the time of his arrest, police described Simon as a “transient male from Walnut Creek.”
Police seized an iPhone during the arrest that when forensically examined, revealed hundreds of images and videos of child sexual abuse material.
“The swift investigation work by Walnut Creek Police and our Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was crucial in holding the defendant accountable,” said Contra Costa County DA Diana Becton. “This case demonstrates our unwavering commitment to protecting children in our communities from those who prey on them.”
Simon has remained in custody since his arrest and will begin serving his sentence immediately, according to the DA.
