CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Today, Glenn Hegar, the incoming chancellor of the Texas A&M University System, visited West Texas A&M University. Hegar was named for this position after a unanimous vote by the Board of Regents on March 28.
Hegar explained that a focus of his is growing all of the campuses to meet the needs of a growing population in Texas. He added that he grew up on his family farm, and it played a role not only in teaching him hard work and character building, but also in the importance of agriculture.
“I see that the expansion of those research capabilities here on campus, across not just in the universities, but with our research institutions being able to continue to improve here on campus and in the region, which I think makes everybody a winner.”
Hegar said he learned a variety of tips from the previous Chancellor John Sharp. He wants to stay true to Sharp’s core mission by taking advantage of the opportunities to grow both the system and the campuses.
