CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A teenager lost his life in a shooting late Thursday night, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).
CMPD says multiple people called 911 to report a shooting in the 1000 block of Merrick Street. This is near North Tryon Street. Officers arrived at the residential area just before 11:30 p.m. on June 26 to find a 15-year-old boy shot.
He sadly passed away before they could be taken to a hospital. Authorities have not said if anyone has been arrested, but they did say a suspect “wantonly discharged a firearm” at the apartments with residents inside.
According to a CMPD police report, a 30-year-old woman and four children between 3 and 14 years old were at risk but were not injured. It is unclear how many apartments were struck by gunfire.
Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-8477 (TIPS) to speak with a CMPD homicide detective. Detective Guillet is the lead detective for this case. To leave information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or charlottecrimestoppers.com.
