New Bay Area restaurant added to 2025 CA Michelin Guide, 2 others given two-star honor

(KRON) — The annual MICHELIN Guide California ceremony concluded on Wednesday with several changes involving Bay Area restaurants. Michelin announced this week that an East Bay restaurant received its first Michelin star: Sun Moon Studio in Oakland.

Two Bay Area restaurants were added to Michelin’s two-star club: Enclos in Sonoma and Kiln in San Francisco. This is the first time Enclos has received a Michelin star. Kiln was promoted from a one-star restaurant to two this week, according to the Michelin Guide.

Enclos also received a “Michelin Green Star,” which is an honor for restaurants that are viewed to be sustainability leaders in the industry. There are currently 17 Michelin-Green-Starred restaurants in California.

The California Michelin Guide star rankings go as follows:

• 3 stars: “Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey”
• 2 stars: “Excellent cuisine, worth a detour”
• 1 star: “High quality cooking, worth a stop”
• Green star: “Restaurant sustainability leaders”
• Bib Gourmands: “Good food at moderate price”

As of 2025, there are eight three-starred Michelin restaurants in California, four of them in the Bay Area. There are 14 with two stars and 65 with one star.
