JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson (R-Miss.) is pushing for healthier eating habits across Mississippi.

Gipson announced he’s partnering with the Mississippi State Medical Association (MSMA) and other health groups for the “Make MS Health Again” initiative. Experts said there are numerous cancers tied to obesity.

“We see a lot of GI issues. We see a lot of chronic inflammation issues when we’re not focusing on incorporating those healthy diets,” said Dr. Jennifer Bryan, president of the MSMA.

Gipson said buying locally goes beyond supporting the local community.

“You’re actually supporting our biggest economy in the state, which is agriculture,” he said.
