Lehi sex offender charged for trying to meet with and sexually abuse 14-year-old

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A sex offender living in Lehi has been charged by the Utah Attorney General’s Office after attempting to meet up with an undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old child.

Kraig Harris Gamble, 45, has been charged with attempted rape, enticement of a minor, and patronizing a prostituted individual who is a child. All charges are second-degree felonies, and two of them have the “habitual sex offender” enhancement.

According to documents, a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) created a fake online profile pretending to be a 14-year-old child. The agent posted on a website “known for sexual activity” and indicated that the minor was “available for sexual activity,” including a digitally-modified fake photo of a child.

Another user, later identified as Gamble, replied to the post with interest. He reportedly asked if the child was “available” and if they were secretly law enforcement. The undercover agent told Gamble that they were a 14-year-old child and sent a fake photo when asked for one.

Gamble allegedly followed up by asking “how much,” and the agent responded that it would be $150. The agent posing as a 14-year-old and Gamble discussed details of meeting up, during which the agent reiterated the alleged age of the child.

On June 24, 2025, Gamble and the undercover agent arranged to meet up in Salt Lake County. When Gamble arrived at the meeting location, he was taken into custody. The iPhone used to communicate with the fake 14-year-old and $150 cash was found on Gamble’s person.

During an interview with police, Gamble allegedly stated that he was messaging the 14-year-old, but that he only did because he “enjoys wasting prostitutes’ and escorts’ time by connecting and chatting but not actually meeting,” documents say. Gamble also claimed that he did not bring the cash to the meeting place.

In 1999, Gamble was charged with rape of a child and sexual abuse of a child. He was convicted of both counts in 2000 and placed on the sex offender registry. Due to his likelihood to reoffend, the Attorney General’s Office asked for a no-bail warrant to keep him in custody.
