LANETT, Al. (WRBL) — The Lanett Police Department posted a message on its Facebook Thursday, inviting the community to join the first-ever “National Night Out.”
National Night Out is an event that promotes “strong police-community partnerships,” in an effort to connect with others while continuing to keep the city safe.
“This is a night for our nation to stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity,” said National Project Coordinator Matt Peskin.
He added, “National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement. When law enforcement and the community work closely together, some amazing things can happen.”
According to Lanett PD, National Night Out is celebrated on the first Tuesday of August annually across the country and provides an opportunity to “strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the community.”
“This being our first National Night Out, I am excited to see what this event brings to the City of Lanett. It is another chance for us to connect with our residents in a positive way and to make sure Lanett remains a safe place to live, work, and play,” said Peskin.
The event free for all ages and will be held on Aug. 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. EST at the WO Lance Playground, which is located at 200 South 8th Avenue Lanett, AL 36863.
