LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Lexington businessman Nate Morris announced his Senate run on Thursday, and his welcome to the crowded race for Mitch McConnell’s seat was anything but welcome.
Morris announced his candidacy during the Donald Trump Jr. “Triggered” podcast on June 26.
Daniel Cameron, fellow candidate and former attorney general, called Morris a “globalist in a MAGA hat” in a news release on Thursday.
Cameron accused Morris of backing Nikki Haley in the 2024 election, hiring Barack Obama’s campaign manager, and laying off Kentucky workers while taking a $41 million payout.
Sen. Andy Barr told reporters in Washington on Friday that he’s the only candidate who backed Trump from the beginning.
“The bottom line is, I’m the only candidate in this race who’s actually delivering for President Trump’s agenda,” Barr said. “These other candidates like to talk about it. They’re fake MAGA. The reality is I’m the only candidate actually doing the work, voting for the one Big Beautiful Bill, working with Secretary Benson’s secretary. On the economic agenda, working with Kevin Hassett and the national economic team.”
The Federal Election Commission shows Morris is the seventh Republican candidate in the race, with Pamela Stevenson being the only Democratic candidate.
