(KRON) — It was an extremely “close call” for a driver whose car was found “precariously” dangling over the side of a 200-foot cliff near Devil’s Slide on Thursday afternoon, said CAL FIRE CZU San Mateo-Santa Cruz unit.
CAL FIRE CZU said firefighters responded to the accident at 2:45 p.m. Thursday just south of Grey Whale Cove on Devil’s Slide. Crews said there was one person trapped in the vehicle that was only being held up by a tree.
“CAL FIRE, Coastside Fire and North County Fire quickly stabilized the vehicle, setting up a rope system. They were able to extricate the patient out of the back window,” said officials in a social media post.
It is not yet known what led to the incident. The condition of the rescued person was not disclosed.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, California State Parks Lifeguards and California Highway Patrol – Golden Gate Division also responded to the scene.
