LOS BANOS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Three people were arrested after the Los Banos Police Department seized thousands of pounds of illegal fireworks last week.
Officers say they arrested 55-year-old Mellon Moseley III and 23-year-old Cruz Flores. They were accused of conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of over 5,000 pounds of dangerous fireworks and possession of illegal explosives.
Through additional investigation, detectives reported arresting 60-year-old Lindbergh Corpuz Arrocena after allegedly being found in possession of dangerous fireworks.
The arrests follow a search warrant at a storage facility in Los Banos that resulted in the removal of more than 20,000 pounds of illegal fireworks on June 20. Officers say the illegal fireworks had an estimated street value of $260,000.
The seized fireworks will be transferred to the State Fire Arson and Bomb unit for disposal and destruction.
“We hope the removal of over 20,000 pounds of illegal fireworks with an estimated street value of $260,000.00 will result in the residents of Los Banos having a safer Fourth of July,” officers wrote on a social media post.
Police remind residents that anyone found with illegal or dangerous fireworks is subject not only to criminal charges, but also to a $1,250 administrative citation per violation.
