Arkansas State Police investigation leads to 150-year prison sentence for rape, sexual assault

DE QUEEN, Ark. – A De Queen man received a 150-year prison sentence on Wednesday after a Sevier County jury found him guilty of rape and sexual assault.

Officials with the Arkansas State Police said 66-year-old Thomas Eugene Whitt of De Queen was found guilty of three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. They said the department’s Criminal Investigation Division began investigating Whitt in 2023 after receiving information alleging his role in sexual abuse over 6 years from January 2017 to December 2023.

Officials stated that investigators discovered evidence leading to a January 2024 arrest warrant for Whitt. He was released on a $150,000 bond, but was taken into custody after the jury’s verdict.

A statement from ASP Col. Mike Hagar indicated that multiple victims were involved.

“These victims were subjected to years of unspeakable acts of abuse by Whitt,” Hagar said. “We are grateful to the great work done by our CID Special Agents, the courage of those who came forward, and the Sevier County jurors who ensured this individual was held accountable.”

Sentencing was 40 years for each of the three rape convictions and 20 years for sexual assault, to be served consecutively.
