Little Rock, Ark. — Gas prices in Arkansas are ticking down just ahead of what’s expected to be a record-setting Independence Day travel period.
According to AAA’s Arkansas Weekend Gas Watch, the average cost for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Arkansas is $2.84, that’s one cent less than last week and 15 cents cheaper than this time last year.
According to AAA officials, crude oil briefly rose to $78 per barrel following U.S. airstrikes over the weekend but has since dropped back to the mid-$60s, which impacts about 60% of final pump prices.
Nationally, prices average $3.22 per gallon, up two cents from last week but 27 cents less than a year ago, said Nick Chabarria, AAA spokesperson.
“As drivers prepare for 4th of July road trips, AAA reminds them to maximize their vehicle`s fuel efficiency by making sure their cars and trucks are well-maintained, including properly inflated tires,” Chabarria said. “Drivers can also increase their vehicle`s fuel efficiency by obeying speed limits because the faster a vehicle is moving, the more fuel it burns.”
