25-Year-Old British National Believed To Be IntelBroker Charged

Federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York have filed criminal charges against Kai West, a 25-year-old British national allegedly operating under the notorious hacker alias “IntelBroker.”

The comprehensive complaint reveals a sophisticated cybercriminal operation that has caused approximately $25 million in damages to victims across multiple sectors, including telecommunications, healthcare, and internet service providers.

West faces four federal charges ,including conspiracy to commit computer intrusions, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, accessing protected computers to defraud, and wire fraud.

Summary
1. Kai West, 25-year-old British national "IntelBroker," charged in $25M cybercrime operation.
2. Operated Forum-1 marketplace, 335 sale threads, sought $2M+ through Monero payments.
3. Exploited vulnerabilities, stole API keys, breached healthcare data affecting 56,415 individuals.
4. The FBI traced identity via blockchain analysis and IP correlation to personal accounts.

The defendant, who also used the alias “Kyle Northern,” allegedly led the hacking collective known as “CyberN[——],” previously operating under the name “The Boys.”

IntelBroker’s Data Theft Operation

The FBI detailed in the complaint how West’s operation utilized Forum-1, a specialized cybercriminal marketplace focused on computer network intrusions.

Analysis of West’s IntelBroker persona revealed an unprecedented level of criminal activity: 335 public messages initiating conversation threads and 2,126 individual comments, with approximately 158 threads specifically offering stolen data for sale, free distribution, or Forum-1 credits.

Hacking Group Recruitment by IntelBroker

The investigation uncovered that West and his co-conspirators sought to collect at least $2 million through their illegal data sales, with specific asking prices totaling approximately $2.47 million across documented incidents.

The operation primarily accepted payments in Monero (XMR), a privacy-focused cryptocurrency designed to obfuscate transaction trails and maintain anonymity.

The cybercriminal enterprise employed advanced technical methods including exploitation of Software-1 vulnerabilities, API key theft, server infiltration techniques, and systematic data exfiltration processes.

West’s group targeted critical infrastructure and sensitive data repositories, with documented breaches affecting a telecommunications provider (Victim-1), a municipal healthcare provider (Victim-3) containing data from 56,415 individuals, and multiple internet service providers.

Investigators traced West’s identity through sophisticated blockchain analysis of Bitcoin wallet transactions, connecting BTC Wallet-1 to his Ramp Account-1 and Coinbase accounts registered under his UK provisional driving license.

Additional evidence included correlational analysis showing West’s personal email accounts viewing YouTube videos minutes before the IntelBroker persona posted identical content to Forum-1, and IP address matching during active breach periods.

“IntelBroker” Operation Dismantled

The complaint represents a significant breakthrough in international cybercrime prosecution, demonstrating law enforcement’s capability to penetrate sophisticated anonymization techniques used by modern cybercriminals.

West’s alleged role as Forum-1’s “owner” from August 2024 through January 2025 positioned him at the center of a global cybercriminal ecosystem.

The case highlights the evolving threat landscape where cybercriminal groups operate as organized enterprises, complete with recruitment drives, signature branding, and systematic victim targeting.

West’s conspiracy charges span from December 2022 through February 2025, indicating a persistent and evolving criminal operation that adapted its methods and expanded its reach over time.
