DALLAS (KDAF) — There’s always one soda people keep going back to, but which one is Texas’ favorite?
A new study conducted by beverage consulting firm Power Brands reveals which soft drink comes out as the favorite in every U.S. state, using Google Trends data. The results show how for many that familiar bottle or can is more than just a way to quench thirst.
Coca-Cola remains the favorite soft drink in most states, leading in 14, mostly across the South and parts of the Midwest. States like Alabama, Georgia, and Texas show strong loyalty to the brand, highlighting the South as a clear Coca-Cola territory.
Dr Pepper comes in second, topping the list in nine states. It has a solid following in the central and western parts of the country, including Oklahoma, Kansas, and Utah. This suggests the brand has carved out a niche away from the traditional Coke and Pepsi rivalry.
Sprite ranks number one in six states, mostly around the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic regions like Illinois, Maryland, and New Jersey. Its lighter, lemon-lime flavor seems to resonate well in these urban and mixed markets.
Pepsi is the top choice in five states, mainly in the Northeast and parts of the Midwest. New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio favor Pepsi, showing regional preferences that differ from the Coca-Cola stronghold in the South.
Mountain Dew holds the top spot in four states scattered from North Carolina to Maine. Known for its bold citrus flavor and popularity with younger drinkers, it shows steady appeal in both southern and northern states.
Fanta leads in three states on the West Coast and Hawaii. Its fruity taste seems to fit well with those markets. Canada Dry, mostly known for ginger ale, is number one in Massachusetts and Vermont, suggesting a taste for something different in New England.
Kool-Aid, a powdered drink mix, surprisingly ranks first in North and South Dakota. This might reflect local tastes or traditions.
Several other drinks each lead in just one state. A&W Root Beer tops Iowa, 7UP leads Minnesota, and AriZona Iced Tea is most popular in Washington. Lipton Iced Tea is the favorite in New Hampshire, while Tropicana (Colorado), Minute Maid (Wisconsin), Ocean Spray (Montana), Welch’s (Wyoming), Dole (New Mexico), and Orange Crush (Indiana) each hold the top spot in one state.
