SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Parish representatives tour The Harbor, a resource center for families and children, to discuss challenges related to developing the parish and addressing the community’s needs.
The Harbor is a resource center for children and families, providing access to mental health services, parenting education, child advocacy, domestic violence counseling, and Volunteers for Youth Justice programs, all in one location.
The Harbor facilities include a food pantry and a Calming Studio. According to Volunteers Youth Justice, the Calming Studio, ‘is a controlled and intentionally designed sensory space where children, youth, and adults can feel safe and secure despite the stressful environment and circumstances they find themselves in. ‘
They discussed projects and challenges related to developing the parish and addressing the community’s needs.
“They work with families or they work with organizations that need resources that are here in The Harbor, such as our food pantry, recording studio, calming studio, and counseling services. So it was a good time for these elected officials and these parish representatives to see what The Harbor can offer the families they work with,” says The Harbor’s Director of Community Engagement and Development, Alex Person.
Volunteers for Youth Justice serve The Harbor, which includes Caddo Juvenile Court, DeSoto Parish Court, DCFS, and various agencies and resources for families, such as physical therapy and counseling.
