A camping website, “The Dyrt,” has released its annual ranking of what campgrounds are the best in America, and a couple of them are in California.
“It’s not just camping season, it’s Best Places to Camp season!” says Sarah Smith, founder of The Dyrt. “When the process is complete, I love looking at the 60 winners and seeing how, even though it’s all about camping, each one is so different. Some of these locations are up in the mountains, others are on islands in the South. We have campgrounds with zero amenities that certain vehicles can’t reach, and we have campgrounds that are in vineyards or on berry farms. That’s why so many people love camping, because you can make it exactly what you want it to be.”
Here are some of the campgrounds in California:
Upper Pines Campground
The campground is located at 9024 Southside Drive in Yosemite National Park.
According to the Dyrt website, the main thing that makes this campground is that this is located in the heart of Yosemite National Park, which is one of the most-visited destinations in the U.S. national park system.
The tickets cost $36. The campground allows for pets and fires, as well as RVs.
The campground has a range of accommodations that include tent sites and RV spots, but no electric hookup.
Camp officials said, “While the campground has a no-alcohol policy, it allows pets, so you can bring your furry friends along for the adventure. With its friendly atmosphere and stunning scenery, Upper Pines Campground is a great choice for anyone looking to explore the wonders of Yosemite.”
Morro Bay State Park Campground
The campground is located at State Park Road in Morro Bay.
This campground features picnic tables and fire rings at each of its sites, which makes it easy to gather around the fire and enjoy some quality time with loved ones, according to the Dyrt website.
Officials stated that the main thing that makes this campground great is that 15 miles downhill from San Luis Obispo and a short bike from the charming beach town of Morro Bay is the campground bordered by a tidal estuary on one side and the other side is a golf course.
The prices for this campground start at $35. This camp also allows for pets, fires, and RVs.
Some of the best-rated campgrounds in California are located in the Southern part of the state. Such as:
Sawtooth Canyon Campground
This camp is located at 2601 Barstow Road in Bastrow.
The campground has basic amenities for campers to take advantage of, which also include vault toilets. You can stay connected with the following services: Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
What makes this campground great is that it is known to the rock climbers community as “New Jack City”, a winter climbing destination that offers over 400 routes and expansive views over the desert floor. The campground also offers a picnic table and shade canopy to help you stay away from those summer heats.
The price to enjoy this campground is free.
Officials stated that this campground does not have an RV site but does allow fires and pets. For campfires, the camp requires people to have permits, and depending on the fire season. On some days, people may be restricted.
Alabama Hill Recreation Area
The campground is located between the intersection of Movie Road and Whitney Portal Road in Lone Pine.
One of the best things about this campsite is that officials stated that you can do campfires, which makes it the perfect way to end the day after exploring. For people who are fans of hiking, the site offers short trails nearby that lead to spots with nice views that include a stream.
According to the Dyrte website, the thing that makes this campsite great is the finding of the desert twin of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and its Yosemite crown jewel, surrounded by the waters of Lake Tahoe.
The campground is free, and it allows for fires and pets.
