GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — One of the best golfers in the Triad is preparing for the biggest tournament of his life: the U.S Senior Open in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The 2025 U.S. Senior Open begins Thursday at the Broadmoor Golf Club with 155 players set to compete, including Greensboro’s own Ryan Gioffre.

“It’s fun to qualify and say, ‘Oh, yeah, I got in. That’s great,'” Gioffre said. “But it’s another thing to go play in it.”

He says he has his sights set on making it past the cut line.

“I would love to make the cut. That would be super great. The biggest thing for me is going to be managing probably myself, just like anybody else out there. Those guys are a lot more used to it than I am.”

Gioffre went to Greensboro Day School, played at Wake Forest University and still remembers competing on the PGA Mini Tour with his wife Danielle as his caddie.

“She gave me some friendly golfer advice, and I just told her to be quiet, that I knew what I was doing,” Gioffre said. “She pulled me back in there and she said, ‘Listen here. I am not your wife out here. I am your caddie, and, as your caddie, I’m telling you that you need to do this and this,’ and I was like, ‘You know? She’s right.'”

Gioffre’s PGA Tour career never took off, but he instead found himself in a great job in commercial real estate. He and Danielle have two kids: Ryan, who plays football, and Sophie, who plays soccer.

“I would rather be with my kids and watch them do their thing, just like my parents did with me,” he said. “That’s what I enjoy.”

This week, the whole family and a bunch of his friends will be in Colorado Springs to form the Ryan Gioffre Gallery as he competes against some huge names in golf, like Freddie Couples, Davis Love, David Duval and many more.

This is Ryan’s second USGA event. Way back in 1996, he played in the U.S. Amateur, where he saw a kid named Tiger Woods win his third in a row.

Talking with Gioffre, FOX8’s Danny Harden joked that the goal is to make the cut and hear people say, “Who is this Ryan guy from Greensboro?”

“Make them ask a lot of questions,” Gioffre said with a laugh. “Go into the press booth and answer a lot of hard questions that I have no idea what the answers are, yes. That would be great.”
