Man accused of killing mother-in-law in Frederick County, deputies say

FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — A man is behind bars after he was accused of killing his mother-in-law at their home in Frederick County, according to deputies.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said that on June 22, just after 10 a.m., deputies were called to a home in the 8400 block of Foresight Lane in Walkersville for the report of an unconscious person.

Once on the scene, deputies located 68-year-old Christine Liboula dead inside the home.

An autopsy revealed that Liboula died from injuries consistent with strangulation and blunt force trauma, ruling her death a homicide.

Investigators executed a search warrant at the home, and Liboula’s son-in-law, 35-year-old Pavel Obambe, was taken into custody for questioning.

Authorities learned that Obambe allegedly assaulted another woman in the house, and Liboula tried to intervene. The woman left the house that night.

However, the next morning, family members returned to find Liboula’s body, according to deputies.

Obambe was charged with first and second-degree murder, second-degree assault and false imprisonment.

He is being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.

At this point, investigators believe that there are no additional suspects.
