FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — Nowadays, it seems everyone has a podcast. From athletes to reality TV stars, actors to even politicians. One politician with his podcast is Gov. Andy Beshear.
As Beshear has received more and more national attention as a political figure, some, including FOX 56 News Political Analyst Jonathan Miller, believe launching a podcast was the next logical step.
“In today’s new media climate, having your own podcast is a prerequisite,” Miller explained. “He set his up and, hence, really helped start laying the groundwork for a bid for 2028.”
While it may seem far away, the 2028 presidential election will be here before you know it, and Miller said candidates have to do everything they can to get the attention of voters.
“When you’re on CNN or even FOX 56 News, you’ve only got 30 seconds, a minute at most to make your case,” Miller detailed. “With a podcast, you get a full hour to do that every week.”
With a little more than 10 episodes thus far, Miller said Beshear has already shared the messaging that could fuel a presidential campaign.
“I think the message about children and his own children is one of the highlights, and you see that particularly when he brings his kids onto the program,” outlined Miller. “His whole theme about as governor and what I think will be his theme if he runs for president, is he’s bringing people together.”
The podcast at the time of writing has more than 2,200 subscribers on YouTube and 6,400 followers on Instagram.
While some would argue that’s not impressive, Miller said so far, what the Beshear camp is hoping for is working.
“People are talking about it and the fact that you’re asking me and doing a story about it is precisely kind of the intention here,” Miller said.
While he hasn’t formally announced a run for the White House yet, many project that Beshear will at some point.
“Time flies so quickly, and Democrats right now are starving for new leaders,” Miller said. “Over time, you’ll see this podcast is a way for him to really help not only shape his message but also refine it.”
We reached out to the Beshear camp for comment on their thoughts on the podcast thus far and are waiting to hear back.
Episode 12 of the podcast is set to be released on Thursday.
So far, Beshear has had Gov. Tim Walz and Senator Amy Klobuchar as guests, to name a few.
Miller said that move is by design, but eventually, you could expect more guests from the other side of the aisle to promote Beshear’s message of being able to find common ground.
