INDIANAPOLIS – As central Indiana continues experiencing this heat wave, A/C units are working overtime. For some, those units are now giving out at the wrong time.

With temperatures in the low 90s and feeling like 100+, A/C repair companies say they’re seeing a lot of failing HVAC systems. Repair companies like Chapman Heating and Cooling and Mister Quik say they are completely booked.

“As soon as it hit over 90 degrees, our call volume has tripled, if not quadrupled,” Jason Peters, Sales Manager at Chapman Heating and Cooling, said. “Right now our schedules are pretty flooded with being so busy and so hot outside, but yeah, we’re trying to come out the next day.”

The experts say if your unit is blowing out warm air, not cooling when you turn down the air or simply not working at all, those are signs that something is wrong with your unit. But when should you call a repair company to have them come out? They say as soon as you suspect something is or could be wrong.

“If you hear any weird noises, any whistling or anything like that, that’s a good indicator that something could be going on,” said John Purdy with Mister Quik. “Anytime the first notice of anything of concern, you want to get a hold of us right away because those issues are going to get worse as it continues to be this hot.”

Both companies say to check your air filter and make sure that you are keeping it clean and unblocked. That is the main reason why your unit might not be blowing cold air. They also suggest checking for any leaks before summer, so ensure your unit or system doesn’t break down.
