CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — If you tried to renew your driver’s license in North Carolina Thursday morning and ran into problems, you weren’t alone.

Driver’s license services were temporarily halted at all NC DMV offices across the state due to a technical issue with a federal database. Everything is now back up and running.

According to the NCDOT, a system outage affecting the National Driver Register had forced all driver’s license offices to stop issuing or renewing licenses earlier on Thursday.

The NDR is a tool that helps verify driver eligibility across the country, and when it goes down, state DMV offices can’t process licenses.

The database is managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which worked to fix the issue. The NCDOT confirmed that the problem has been resolved.

If you had a DMV appointment on Thursday, you should now be able to go as planned.
