ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – An Arkadelphia man was sentenced Monday to 20 years in prison for a 2024 high-speed chase on Interstate 30.
According to Arkansas State Police, a trooper attempted to stop 29-year-old Christopher Trentell Penny for a traffic violation on the afternoon of Aug. 29, 2024, near Caddo Valley. ASP officials said Penny pulled into a service station but drove from the scene as the trooper got out of his vehicle.
Special agents said he drove on I-30 going more than 130 mph while passing vehicles and weaving in and out of traffic. The chase continued for about nine miles before the trooper used a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver to stop the vehicle, officials said.
State troopers said no one was injured during the chase.
Penny was taken into custody and transported to the Clark County Detention Center. He was sentenced for fleeing in a vehicle causing danger.
Earlier this year, ASP officials and state prosecutors announced a state-wide crackdown on ending high-speed chases.
