(WPHL) — The trial for the man accused of killing a Temple University Police Officer began on Monday.
Miles Pfeffer is accused of murdering Officer Christopher Fitzgerald in February 2023 near Temple University’s campus.
Investigators say Pfeffer, who was 18 at the time, was running away from Fitzgerald. When the officer caught up to him, they fought, and Pfeffer pulled out a gun and shot Fitzgerald four times.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that prosecutors say the evidence shows that Pfeffer wanted the officer to die. Pfeffer’s attorneys say that the deadly shooting of Officer Fitzgerald was a mistake.
The trial is expected to last several days.
