Our Lady of the Lake showcases newest surgical technology

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Our Lady of the Lake is bringing in the newest upgrade to enhance minimally invasive surgeries.

The Da Vinci 5, a top-of-the-line surgical robot, assists with minimally invasive procedures from the neck down to the pelvis.

Dr. Mark Hausmann will perform the first surgery on Friday and mentions a key difference in this next-gen machine.

“This adds a tactile sensation to what we had before. So, we can actually get a sense of the tension we have on tissues,” said Dr. Hausmann.

While the Da Vinci 5 offers new features, it’s built on familiar technology. That means many surgeons can rely on their existing skills.

Our Lady of the Lake is switching out their Gen 4 for a Gen 5 to help patients feel better and go home sooner.

And it’s not just about precision — it’s about connection. The Da Vinci also lets doctors assist one another during surgery, and Dr. Daryl Marx knows the importance of this feature.

“We will be able to communicate with us in real time through the machine if they are having trouble, if they have a question, if there is something that I am doing and I know that somebody else does particularly well,” said Dr. Marx.

Our Lady of the Lake is stepping forward in surgical innovation by helping patients heal faster.
