OGDEN, Utah (ABC4) — An Ogden woman is facing felony charges from her role in a fatal head-on collision that took the life of a young mother.
Alyssa Palomo, 21, was booked in the Weber County Jail Thursday evening on multiple charges including automobile homicide and driving under the influence. The arrest comes nearly three months after she allegedly caused a fatal crash near 30th street and Harrison Boulevard in Ogden.
Lt. Will Farr with the Ogden Police Department identified the victim as Tylar Palmer. Palmer was allegedly sitting in the back seat of a Ford Focus which was being driven by Palomo. The two were traveling north on Harrison Boulevard when their car crossed into on-coming traffic and collided with a Ford F350.
Police say Palomo was pinned following the crash and had to be extricated. Crews were able to transport her to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Palmer was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital where she died due to her injuries.
Witnesses told police at the scene that Palomo had been to a party shortly before the crash where she had become “visibly intoxicated.” Palomo was allegedly asked to leave the party after becoming “loud” and “disruptive.” Witness statements also claim she had a designated driver, but refused to let them drive and, instead, drove off herself, leaving the driver behind.
Upon further investigation, police discovered Palomo was traveling at speeds of about 70 miles per hour as she approached the area of the crash. A blood draw conducted also indicated Palomo had a blood alcohol content of .21. THC was also found in her blood, police say.
A GoFundMe was set up to help the Palmer family with funeral expenses and support her baby.
