North Texas cities lead in non-college job opportunities

DALLAS (KDAF) — Many people are now looking beyond the traditional four-year college degree, and the numbers prove it — over 1.44 million searches were made for non-college post-grad paths in the last year.

To explore this shift, the K12 team analyzed search trends, job listings, and wage data across 99 major U.S. cities. The result is a comprehensive view of where opportunity is booming — and where it’s lagging — for high school grads choosing alternative paths like trade school, apprenticeships, and gap years.

Several North Texas cities made the top five for non-college-bound high school grads, including Dallas (#3), Irving (#4), and Garland (#5).

Irving ranks first and Dallas second nationwide for entry-level, no-degree job availability.
Arlington ranks 10th for search interest per capita, showing strong demand for alternative paths.

Texas cities also share strong infrastructure: all 10 included cities rank 16th nationally for trade school access — among the best in the country.
