MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois 90th District State Rep. John Cabello (R-Machesney Park) announced he will run for re-election in 2026.
Cabello, who has 30 years in law enforcement and currently serves with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, has represented the 90th District since 2012.
“I am running for re-election because I want to continue to be a voice of reason and common sense in a legislature that is increasingly partisan and decidedly ‘progressive’, influenced by Chicago Democrats who want to push their social agenda across Illinois. These far-left activists have been funded and encouraged by the current occupant of the Governor’s mansion,” said Cabello.
“It is my hope and prayer that Illinoisans with common sense and open minds will be engaged in this upcoming election. A lot rides on who is in charge and the direction of our state affects the value of our properties and investments and the future of our children. I can do my part but not without the people I can count on to help spread the message and give voters a real choice. I hope to see as many voters as I can on the campaign trail and beyond,” he said.
Cabello also serves as an Assistant Minority Leader to House Minority Leader Tony McCombie (R-Savannah).
