Disaster Recovery Centers in Daviess, Hopkins counties to shut down

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Officials say the Disaster Recovery Centers in Daviess and Hopkins counties are scheduled to close permanently this week.

FEMA says Kentucky survivors who experienced loss as the result of the April severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides and mudslides can still apply for FEMA assistance.

Hopkins County

Officials say this center is closing permanently on June 25, at 7 p.m. at the Hopkins County Fairground on 605 East Arch Street in Madisonville. Working hours until closure are still Monday through this Wednesday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m..

Daviess County

Officials say this center is closing permanently on June 26, at 7 p.m., at the Stanley Fire Department on 159 Highway 1554 in Stanley. Working hours until closure are still Monday through this Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Other information

FEMA says Disaster Recovery Centers are “one-stop shops” where people can get information and advice on available assistance from state, federal and community organizations. People can get help to apply for FEMA assistance, learn the status of their FEMA application, understand the letters they get from FEMA and get referrals to agencies that may offer other assistance. The U.S. Small Business Administration representatives and resources from the state of Kentucky are also available at the Disaster Recovery Centers.

FEMA is encouraging Kentuckians affected by the April storms to apply for federal disaster assistance as soon as possible. The deadline to apply is July 25.

FEMA says people can visit any Disaster Recovery Center to get in-person assistance. No appointment is needed. To find all other center locations, including those in other states, go here or text “DRC” and a Zip Code to 43362.

Officials say people also don’t have to visit a center to apply for FEMA assistance. There are other ways to apply, such as online, using the FEMA app for mobile devices or call 800-621-3362. If anyone uses a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, they are asked to give FEMA the number for that service.

FEMA says when people apply, they will need to provide:

  • A current phone number where the person requesting assistance can be contacted.
  • The person’s address at the time of the disaster and the address where they are now staying.
  • Their Social Security Number.
  • A general list of damage and losses.
  • Banking information if they choose direct deposit.
  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.
