CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The mother of a 9-month-old was charged after the infant was hospitalized from an apparent drug overdose and dog bite, according to the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said Gamewell firefighters stabilized the child before they were transferred to a Charlotte-area hospital. Investigators learned the child was bitten by the family dog.

The mother, 33-year-old Hali Ann Nichols, was arrested and charged with felony child abuse. Arrest records show she was booked in the Caldwell County Detention Center on Tuesday, June 24, under a $200,000 bond.

This is an ongoing investigation by Child Protective Services and local law enforcement.
