BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (ABC4) — A Brigham City man has been arrested and charged after law enforcement discovered he had sexually abused his child.
The 41-year-old Brigham City man, whom ABC4 is not identifying to protect the victim, has been charged with 17 felonies. He is facing three counts of sodomy upon a child, three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, obstruction of justice, and 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to documents, in November 2023, the Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) received a report that a 7-year-old victim was overheard speaking with a friend about inappropriate sexual contact with their father.
An interview was conducted with the 7-year-old victim at the Children’s Justice Center, but documents say that the victim did not disclose that any abuse had taken place. Their father was interviewed by a detective and allegedly said that the whole thing was a misunderstanding. The case was closed.
In June 2025, the victim’s mother contacted law enforcement. She had allegedly turned in an old phone that belonged to her husband, the 41-year-old, for an upcoming trip. When she turned it on, a calculator app popped up and asked if the user would like to restore photos.
The mother discovered the app was used to conceal photos. After the data was restored, she discovered computer-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on the device, at which point she involved police. The CSAM was found to have been generated in October 2023.
After the Brigham City Police Department was made aware of the 41-year-old’s alleged CSAM possession, they asked the now 9-year-old victim to do an interview again. This time, the victim reportedly disclosed that they had been sexually abused by their father and had witnessed him viewing what appeared to be CSAM.
In an interview with the 41-year-old father, he admitted to lying about the sexual abuse during the 2023 DCFS investigation. The 41-year-old told police that he had sexually abused the victim at least three times, but likely more. He also allegedly told police about other incidents involving inappropriate sexual contact that could be considered abuse.
During a search of the 41-year-old’s phone, police discovered over 100 CSAM images. According to documents, he was booked into the Box Elder County Jail on June 21 and is currently in custody.
Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
