ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – With Governor Abbott’s recent veto of Texas Senate Bill 3, which would have banned all products containing any form of THC in the state of Texas, many in the state are now breathing a sigh of relief.
One of those who are now breathing a little easier is the local business House of Healing, which sells all kinds of products that have a small percentage of THC. These are precisely the type of products that Senate Bill 3 was intended to remove from the shelf, until Governor Abbott vetoed it. This is a rapidly growing industry across the state of Texas, and we spoke with Brittany Manske, the owner of House of Healing, to get her take on Governor Abbott’s veto of SB 3.
“We have so much advocacy behind it, and not only does this help small businesses, this helps all of our hemp farmers. This helps Veterans. Veterans have been a huge impact in this movement,” Manske said.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick criticized the veto, claiming Governor Abbott wants to legalize recreational marijuana in Texas. While some have dismissed Patrick’s statement as an exaggeration, Brittany Manske says the overwhelming public response shows Texans do not support a THC ban.
“Texas spoke, and Texans didn’t want this. We made our voices heard through petitions. We had over 150,000 signatures on the stop SB3 petition. So it was just overwhelming with the amount of support we had,” Manske shared.
Governor Abbott will convene Texas lawmakers in Austin on July 31 for a 30-day special session to discuss regulating these products in the state.
