Texas fast food costs way less than other states, study finds

DALLAS (KDAF) — A new study reveals that Texas is one of the most affordable places in the U.S. for takeout.

According to a report by PriceListo, Texas ranks fifth in the nation for fast food affordability, earning a strong score of 88.22 out of 100 based on the cost of items from six major fast-food chains.

Researchers compared prices on some of America’s popular fast food orders: a McDonald’s Big Mac, Burger King Whopper, Chipotle chicken burrito, Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich, Taco Bell Crunchy Taco, and a Domino’s 14-inch cheese pizza. The price of each item was compared across all states, with the cheapest state for an item scoring 10 and most expensive scoring 0. These scores were combined, then states were ranked on an overall scale of 0 to 100.

Texas shines bright in the burger and pizza departments, earning a perfect 10 for McDonald’s pricing and high marks for Chick-fil-A and Domino’s — scoring 9.67 and 9.09, respectively. On average, a Big Mac costs just $4.80 in Texas, which is 12.3% or 67 cents less than the national average of $5.47.
