AUSTIN, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Texas Department of Public Safety released an update in regards to alleged threats made on Saturday to Texas state lawmakers.
According to officials, on June 14, Texas DPS was made aware of a threat made against lawmakers. Law enforcement said reports were made of an individual who was “on his way to the protest at the Texas State Capitol, planning to harm state lawmakers.”
DPS reported that it evacuated the Texas State Capitol Building and Capitol Grounds and investigated the alleged threat, saying it was determined to be credible.
A suspect was found on Texas State Highway 71 in Fayette County. The suspect was arrested on a misdemeanor traffic charge and taken into custody for further questioning about the threat. A gun was also seized.
“DPS takes all matters of personal security and public safety very seriously. The department continuously monitors events and their impact on public safety across the state and nation, and we work closely with federal agencies, other state agencies and local law enforcement partners to combat any potential danger in Texas,” said officials with Texas DPS. “As always, the department will adjust operations, including personnel and resources, as needed to ensure we are able to address any potential and emerging threats.”
