State Police issue 27K tickets during ‘Speed Week’ initiative

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York State Police troopers issued over 27,000 tickets during “Speed Week” from June 9 to June 15, the agency announced on Monday. The annual traffic enforcement campaign targeted unsafe and aggressive driving behaviors.

Throughout “Speed Week,” troopers throughout the state watched out for those speeding, driving while distracted or impaired, not wearing a seatbelt and those who did not move over for emergency and law enforcement vehicles. Among the total 27,208 tickets, 12,703 were issued for speeding and 1,184 were issued for Move Over Law violations.

Within the troops that cover the Capital Region — Troop G, Troop K and Troop F — 9,320 total vehicle and traffic tickets were issued. Take a look below for the local breakdown:

Throughout the campaign, State Police reportedly used Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement patrol vehicles. The unmarked cars are designed to blend in with everyday traffic but are clearly emergency vehicles when emergency lights are turned on, the agency said.

During “Speed Week” in June 2024, State Police issued 22,426 total tickets, including 11,152 for speeding and 499 for Move Over Law violations.
