SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Connecticut man was arrested in Springfield after a loaded Ghost Gun and drugs were seized on Tuesday.
The Springfield Police Department states that over the past several weeks, members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) have been investigating. Detectives identified 35-year-old Rondell Palmer of Hartford, Connecticut, as the main target.
At around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, detectives applied and were granted a search warrant for Palmer’s apartment, and six subjects were detained in and around the apartment during the search. The six subjects were later released.
Palmer left the apartment and attempted to jump over a porch to get out of the area. Palmer was caught and arrested after a large-capacity ghost gun, capable of holding 17 rounds of ammunition, more ammunition, over $4,000 in cash, approximately 219 bags of heroin and crack-cocaine was found.
Rondell Palmer of Hartford, Connecticut, is charged with:
- Possession of a Covert/Undetectable Firearm
- Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Improper Storage of a Large-Capacity Firearm
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Resisting Arrest
What is a Ghost Gun?
Ghost guns are assembled with parts that can be bought online and are shipped to buyers nearly built, and easily able to put together the remaining parts. The kits lack serial numbers, which is why they are called “ghost guns,” and are nearly impossible for officials to trace.
