WEDDINGTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 37-year-old man hosted a large, unauthorized party at a Weddington home where he had previously been hired for lawn maintenance, according to authorities.
With the homeowners away on vacation, Union County Sheriff’s Office reports that Michael Brown took it upon himself to invite several hundred people to the home located near the intersection of Twelve Mile Creek Road and Beulah Church Road.
On top of that, he charged each person attending the party an entry fee.
UCSO deputies were called to the home after receiving several noise complaints and traffic hazard reports. When deputies spoke with Brown, he allegedly claimed he was the homeowner. After deputies didn’t buy his first story, Brown then said the home belonged to his grandparents.
After several additional failures at telling the truth, deputies say Brown eventually admitted he was the lawn guy and had no relation to the homeowners whatsoever.
Due to the vast crowd of people at the home, a large number of local law enforcement officers, including UCSO deputies, NCSHP troopers and NC ALE agents, began clearing the property. Many of the partygoers decided to leave the area recklessly in their cars, which led to numerous traffic stops.
Once the property was cleared of all trespassers, assorted property damage was found, and deputies arrested Brown.
