LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The heat wave is still well underway, but there is an end in sight. As the heat dome breaks down, another unsettled stretch takes over. We will replace the heat with more storm chances over the weekend and into next week.
Overnight, temperatures will bottom out in the low 70s with those super soupy dew points in the low 70s, too.
A partly cloudy sky takes over again for Wednesday as high temperatures push the low to mid-90s. As expected, heat indices will go as high as 106 again.
The heat advisory is in place until 8 pm Wednesday to cover the peak heat of the day. We may see that get extended into Thursday.
Both Wednesday and Thursday, we will have a chance for a few pop-up storms. The atmosphere is likely a pot of boiling water when it gets this hot, and once it bubbles over, isolated storms sprout.
While it will still be very hot and humid, Friday is the start of the heat breaking down slightly. Highs will still push the low 90s, but heat indices won’t scoot into the triple digits as much thanks to more clouds and the chance for more storms.
An unsettled pattern falls into place as the heat dome slowly breaks down over the weekend. Daily storm chances will once again be in the mix as we enter July.
