AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Amarillo is set to be home to another arena football team as the West Texas Warbirds are coming to town. The community is invited to the team’s first press conference scheduled at 12:30 p.m. on June 30 at the Amarillo Civic Center in the Hospitality Room.
According to the WTW, guests will have the opportunity to meet the team behind the scenes, get photos, and discuss how football is officially back in Amarillo. The event will be free to all.
Amarillo’s recent area football history began in 2004 with the Amarillo Dusters. In 2009, the Dusters were rebranded as the Amarillo Venom, a name they retained until 2021. The Venom returned in 2024 as the Dusters for the 2025 season. After that season, they would be terminated from the National Arena League after failing to meet league obligations.
The new indoor football team has announced some of its members, including its President and CEO Leif Kertis, Senior Vice President and CDO, Cathy Schick, along Senior Vice President and CMO, Derek Urias.
