How long will the high heat linger?

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- The heat dome remains firm across the eastern US. Heat Index temperatures rose to 110 degrees. across North Carolina toward New York. Closer to home, our feel-like readings topped off at 103 degrees in Auburn, Opelika, and Pine Mountain.

Wednesday: Our Heat Advisory remains in effect through Wednesday at 7/8 ET/CT. Feel-like readings will rise near 106 degrees tomorrow, with actual highs near 100. Make sure to stay hydrated and take breaks from the sun.

We are tracking a cluster of storms moving westward from the Carolinas that could bring a chance for severe weather late tomorrow. If these are able to organize, our primary threats will be damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall.

Rest of the Week: Unsettled weather will move back into our forecast. Isolated showers and storms will be possible each afternoon. With better coverage storms moving in early each day, this will help our temperatures.

Highs will drop into the low 90s Thursday and will remain stable through next week. Heat index temperatures will sit in the mid 90s.
