
MERKEL, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A home, outbuildings, and multiple vehicles were destroyed by fire in Merkel Monday night.
First responders arrived on scene of the fire at a property on the 200 block of N Merkel Estates around 8:00 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from a residential home, as well as several vehicles on fire.
The large amount of flames prompted fire fighters to initiate a defensive attack, where they used approximately 30,000 gallon of water to extinguish the fire, which was fully contained around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Extensive damage was caused to the main home, several outbuildings, and multiple vehicles on the property. All are considered a total loss.
Member of the Merkel Volunteer Fir Department received aid from the Tye Fire Department, View Volunteer Fire Department, the Trent Volunteer Fire Department, and the Potosi Volunteer Fire Department in fighting this fire.
The investigation is ongoing, and no cause has been released at this time.
