Gonzales man pleads guilty to 2023 shooting near football stadium that left 1 dead

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Gonzales man pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with a deadly shooting near a high school football stadium in 2023.

Malik Fowler, 23, shot and killed Tyree Parker, 21, and injured another person on Oct. 27, 2023. According to District Attorney Ricky Babin’s office, the guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement.

Deputies responded to a report of shots fired near Donaldsonville High School’s football stadium, where a car driven by Fowler was seen trying to leave the area. He was detained as the two shooting victims were taken to a hospital.

Fowler was charged in connection with the shooting after investigators obtained video showing him getting out of the car and firing multiple shots.

Babin’s office said Fowler faces up to 40 years in state prison. His sentencing was deferred pending a pre-sentence investigation.
