NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Pelicans are making a pre-draft trade.
ESPN Senior Insider Shams Charania is reporting that the Pelicans are trading CJ McCollum, Kelly Olynyk, and a future second-round pick to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey, and the 40th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Poole averaged 19 points per game on 42 percent shooting in his two years with the Wizards.
Saddiq Bey did not suit up for Washington last year while recovering from an ACL injury sustained in March 2024.
For CJ McCollum, his impressive run with the Pelicans comes to a close.
New Orleans acquired McCollum just before the deadline in the 2021-22 season, and he quickly became one of their most reliable scoring options.
In three and a half years with the Pelicans, McCollum appeared in 223 games. He averaged around 21 points and 34 minutes per contest.
He scored his career-high of 50 points in the team’s January 3rd meeting with the Wizards at the Smoothie King Center.
The move comes the day before the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft. You can catch all of the first-round action Wednesday night at 7 p.m. on WGNO.
