KENTUCKY (FOX 56) — A Kentucky Kroger is among those on the shopping block after a failed merger with Albertsons.
Last week, Kroger said it would be closing about 60 stores over the next year and a half, according to the company’s first quarter earnings report.
Kroger is expected to see a “modest financial benefit” from the store closures.
The grocery giant has replaced its CEO and said the move is part of a larger effort to boost efficiency, and that workers will be offered jobs at other locations.
A Kroger spokesperson told WDRB in Louisville it would be closing a Jefferson County location.
“Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close South Third Street store. While we are leaving this location, we will offer each impacted associate the opportunity to transfer to a new location. This closure is part of a larger company-wide decision to run more efficiently and ensure the long-term health of our business,” the spokesperson told WDRB.
Kroger was founded in 1883 in Cincinnati, and has since spread to more than 1,200 locations in 16 states.
The company has not released a complete list of which stores are closing nationwide.
