LAKE CONWAY, Ark.- Helicopters hovered over Lake Conway as Arkansas Game and Fish Commission as crews dropped materials to improve fish habitat.
The habitat work is part of an ongoing renovation project aimed at creating spawning grounds and shelter for catfish, bass, sunfish, and crappie, officials said.
AGFC officials said habitat enhancement efforts are expected to continue throughout the project to maintain long-term improvements.
“We managed to create more gravel spawning beds for sunfish species and concrete culverts for catfish spawning areas,” AGFC Fisheries Supervisor Nick Feltz said. “The gravel gives fish a hard surface to spawn in that holds their eggs instead of allowing them to sink into the muck and suffocate. This project is important to the continued productivity of the lake’s habitat.”
A public meeting is set for June 26 at the Mayflower High School cafeteria to provide updates on the Lake Conway renovation and new spillway structure.
